On strangelets in magnetosphere
نویسنده
چکیده
A short discussion is provided on the hypothesis of strange quark dust of low specific charge in the terrestrial magnetosphere. We suggest by means of rough estimates the possible existence of a strangelet belt in the magnetosphere. PACS: xx.xx.Let1let2, xx.xx.Let1let2

Cosmic-ray strangelets in the Earth’s atmosphere
If strange quark matter is stable in small lumps, we expect to find such lumps, called “strangelets”, on Earth due to a steady flux in cosmic rays. Based on recent model predictions for this flux, we find that strangelets corresponding to gaseous elements (noble gases, N, and O) accumulate in the atmosphere at high concentration. Metallic and semimetallic strangelets accumulate in suprisingly h...
متن کاملStrangelets with nite entropy
Strangelets with non-zero entropy are studied within the MIT bag model. Explicit account is taken of the constraints that strangelets must be color neutral and have a xed total momentum. In general, masses increase with increasing entropy per baryon, and the constraints work so as to increase masses further. This has an important destabilizing e ect on strangelets produced in ultrarelativistic ...
متن کاملColor-flavor locked strangelets and their detection
Strange quark matter in a color-flavor locked state is significantly more bound than “ordinary” strange quark matter. This increases the likelihood of strangelet metastability or even absolute stability. Properties of color-flavor locked strangelets are discussed and compared to ordinary strangelets. Apart from differences in binding energy, the main difference is related to the charge. A stati...
متن کاملColor-flavor locked strangelets in a quark mass density-dependent model
The color-flavor locked (CFL) phase of strangelets is investigated in a quark mass densitydependent model. Parameters are determined by stability arguments. It is concluded that three solutions to the system equations can be found, corresponding, respectively, to positively charged, negatively charged, and nearly neutral CFL strangelets. The charge to baryon number of the positively charged str...
متن کاملColor-flavor locked strangelets.
Finite lumps of color-flavor locked strange-quark matter (CFL strangelets) are significantly more stable than strangelets without color-flavor locking for wide ranges of parameters, increasing the likelihood of strangelet metastability, or even absolute stability beyond some minimum baryon number A(min). Whereas bulk CFL strange-quark matter is electrically neutral, CFL strangelets are positive...
